Youth Specialist -Summer Position with option for year round

The youth specialist will

  • Serve as a lead instructor for daily academic skills-building, enrichment, and life-skills lessons for students enrolled in the after-school and summer COMPASS programs.
  • Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment for youth in summer and after-school programming.
  • Create and lead hands-on, engaging lessons for elementary students.
  • Participate in planning and implementing educational and cultural family events

Position requires experience working with elementary age youth.

Hillside Youth Theater Production Director - Summer Position

The production coordinates the production team to ensure that youth participants are involved in all aspects of creating the play.  They teach acting techniques using methods appropriate and fun for the children and work with the Music Director to teach dance and movement techniques using methods appropriate and fun for the children. Teaching will include children involved in both the production and the camp.

This position is up to 25 hour/week (averaged over an 8 week period) for a total not to exceed 200 hours.

The Season runs June 13th – Aug. 5th, 2016.

Camp Times with students, Mondays – Thursdays 8:30-12:30; flexible hours outside of camp time for planning.

Extended hours during play performance week – July 24th-27th

Hillside Youth Theater Technical Director – Summer Position

The Tech director works closely with production and costumes to design and create appropriate sets, lighting, and props for the production.  They teach set and prop construction techniques using methods appropriate and fun for the children. Teaching will include children involved in both the production and the “tech crew.”

This position is up to 25 hour/week (averaged over an 8 week period) for a total not to exceed 200 hours.

The Season runs June 13th – Aug. 5th, 2016.

Hillside Youth Theater Exploratorium Teacher – Summer Position

The Exploratorium teacher inspires students to gain an in-depth understanding of the play’s content and develop lessons for all students that will help them apply what they have learned through hands-on activities.  They offer direction that is individualized and encourages each child to develop creatively, intellectually, and socially.  This position is instrumental to supporting our Hillside Youth Theater Production.

This position is up to 20 hours/week (averaged over an 8 week period) for a total not to exceed 170 hours.

The Season runs June 12th – Aug. 3rd, 2017.

Camp Times with students, Mondays – Thursdays 8:30-12:30; flexible hours outside of camp time for planning.

Extended hours during play performance week – July 24th-27th

Summer Reads VISTA

Summer Reads VISTA’s provide literacy-rich arts and academic enrichment learning activities for children enrolled in the Myers-Wilkins Hillside Youth Theatre Camp, COMPASS Camp Summer School programs and Imagination Station program. VISTAs will serve as integral team members. They will help plan, organize, and lead summer school activities focusing on the performing, cultural arts and academic content areas; provide individualized and small group literacy skills-building activities for children and engage the community in supporting literacy-building activities and promotion of reading as a lifelong interest.
